Subject: Requesting a Meeting for Hannah Furgiuele — Dolly the Bear
Dear Governor Stein,
My name is [Your Name], and I’m a [resident of / supporter from] [City/Town], North Carolina. I’m writing to ask that your office grant a meeting to Hannah Furgiuele, who has been leading the community effort to secure a humane outcome for Dolly, a mother black bear in the Asheville area currently facing capture and euthanasia, and her remaining cub, Wendell.
I’m asking on Hannah’s behalf because I believe this situation has reached a point where a direct conversation with your office could make the difference. Over 5000 of us have signed petitions, we;ve called and written in support, and asked that Dolly not be killed for a problem that human carelessness created — unsecured trash and, in some cases, deliberate feeding of pet food.
What makes this urgent is that a solution is already within reach: a GFAS-accredited sanctuary has expressed readiness to take Dolly and Wendell together, permanently. Hannah has been in direct conversations with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission, with the sanctuary, and with local officials to move this forward responsibly. What’s needed now is a chance for her to bring all of that directly to you or your team, before a final decision is made.
We are also fully aware that a pardon like this cannot be the answer for every bear, and we are not asking you to treat it that way. What we are asking for is a chance, in this one exceptional case, given the scale of public attention and a placement already standing ready. We are fully committed to using this moment for something larger than Dolly alone, and Dolly’s case becomes the reason our region finally builds the prevention systems it needs, then saving her will have done far more than save one bear.
I would be grateful if your office would grant Hannah even a brief meeting or call. She can be reached at hannahefurgiuele@gmail.com.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully, [Your Name] [Your City/Town, NC] [Your email or phone, optional]
Tips for supporters!
- Personalize it — a sentence about why Dolly’s story matters to you makes your letter more memorable than a copy-paste
- Keep Hannah’s contact info in the letter — that’s what makes it actionable for the Governor’s office
- Submit through the Governor’s portal
